Over $84,000 has been raised towards a $355 million goal within a day by a crowdfunding campaign supporting ex-President Donald Trump in response to a substantial legal fine in a New York civil trial case.
$355 Million Fine
On Friday, Judge Arthur Engoron imposed an approximate $355 million fine on Trump after a detailed trial.
Case Against Trump
The lawsuit, initiated in September 2022 by Attorney General Letitia James, accused Trump of inflating asset values for better financial terms.
Accusations Against Trump’s Associates
James also accused the former president’s two adult sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, The Trump Organization, and two firm executives, Allen Weisselberg and Jeff McConney, of fraudulently inflating asset values to obtain more favorable bank loans and tax arrangements.
Business Ban
The ruling financially penalized Trump and prohibited him from engaging in business within New York for three years, a verdict affecting other defendants similarly.
Financial Penalties
Other defendants in the case were also subject to financial penalties and temporary bans from conducting business in New York.
Political Case
Meanwhile, Trump, the leading GOP candidate in the 2024 presidential election, has refuted any allegations of wrongdoing, asserting that the case was politically motivated.
Campaign Initiator
A Trump ally, Elena Cardone, married to Grant Cardone, a Miami-based private equity manager, launched a GoFundMe page to support the former president.
“Stand with Trump”
The fundraiser, initiated under the banner “Stand with Trump; fund the $355M Unjust Judgment,” aimed to gather $355 million for Trump.
Over 2000 donations
In just 24 hours, the GoFundMe page garnered $84,354 from 2,170 donations.
Largest Contribution
The largest contribution, sent anonymously, totaled $2,500. Additionally, numerous donations of $100 and $200 were received, alongside smaller amounts ranging from $5 to $25.
“Supporter of American Values”
On the fundraising page, Cardone described herself as “an ardent supporter of American values and an advocate for justice” who stands “unwaveringly with President Donald Trump.”
Strength & Reslove
She wrote, “Now, more than ever, it’s time for business owners and entrepreneurs to unite, to show our collective strength and resolve.”
Respect Freedom
Cardone, “Let’s stand with Trump to ensure that justice prevails and that we continue to fight for a country that respects freedom, honors courage, and rewards the unwavering spirit of its people.”
Give & Demonstrate
Her husband Grant Cardon on X stated, “Give something & DEMONSTRATE that the people of America are standing together against unjust rulings like this where a bias judges & corrupt legal system is out of control.”
“Crooked” & “Totally Corrupt”
Following the verdict, Trump criticized Engoron as “crooked” and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who filed the lawsuit in 2022, as “totally corrupt.”
Election Interference Decision
He argued that the decision constituted “election interference” and pledged to file an appeal.
Trump’s Net Worth
According to Forbes, Trump’s net worth stood at approximately $2.6 billion as of September.
“Unjust Political Crusade”
Christopher Kise, Trump’s lawyer, informed Newsweek that Trump intends to appeal the judge’s decision in James’ “unjust political crusade against the front-running candidate for President of the United States.”
Massive Victory
AG Letitia James hailed the court’s decision as a “massive victory,” stating, “No matter how big, how rich, or how powerful you are, no one is above the law. Not even Donald Trump.”
“Trump 2024!”
Several donors left messages on Cardone’s GoFundMe page, expressing sentiments such as “Trump 2024!” and “Make America Righteous Again,” a play on Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” or MAGA.
Fundraising Page Criticism
Many others on X also responded to the GoFundMe page by ridiculing it and those who donated while questioning why a billionaire would require crowdfunding assistance to cover the fine.
Fund Page for Billionaire
One Used posted, “They have a GoFundMe account now for Trump. Who Forbes claims is worth $2.6B, but don’t you dare call it a cult.”
Surprising Response
Another wrote, “Let me get this straight, someone started a GoFundMe for the over $300 million that Trump owes, and people have actually contributed to it?”
