Bill Mitchell, a well-known influencer and one of Donald Trump’s most vocal conservative critics, announced a surprising shift in stance on Saturday.
Surprising Political Pivot
Previously a firm supporter of Ron DeSantis for the nomination, Mitchell had even declared that he’d leave social media and politics if Trump became the GOP’s pick.
Bold Promise on GOP Nominee
His June post was clear: “Unless DeSantis wins the GOP nomination, I will quit social media and politics forever. I can no longer work in a world where a narcissistic, lying, criminal like Trump is my party’s nominee.”
Dramatic Endorsement of Trump
Despite his previous statement, his views took a dramatic turn this weekend. “LET’S MAKE THIS OFFICIAL: I’m endorsing Trump for president,” he stated this Saturday on X. “If Trump gets removed from the race due to his legal issues, I’m endorsing DeSantis as his replacement. We MUST defeat Biden.”
Integrity Questioned
The dramatic shift unleashed a barrage of social media criticism. Users like Meagan Brown were quick to point out the inconsistency, remarking in the comment section, “You blasted on Trump for months. All you did was ridicule him. He doesn’t need your endorsement.”
A Call for Political Tolerance
Meanwhile, Cultist Ls took a more measured approach, stating, “As long as you don’t start bashing the rest of us who refuse to vote/support Trump, you do you. I’ll be voting red down ballot & 3rd party presidential candidate.”
Financial Influences?
Ultra MAGA Joyce Day raised suspicion about financial influences, questioning, “Did Ron stop paying you?”
A ‘serial loser’
User Waterman strongly opposed Trump’s candidacy, commenting, “No, Trump needs to go. He violated his oath of office when he attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost.”
“That is disqualifying. Your view is based on a false assumption, that the GOP will win with Trump, when in fact he’s serial loser.”
A Positive View of Trump
The Calvin Coolidge Project, on the other hand, supported Mitchell’s decision, saying, “I am very glad you are backing Trump Bill. However Trump won’t get removed from the ballot. Because all of the cases are falling apart. If even if that were to happen which it won’t then the GOP nominee would likely be someone who didn’t run.”
‘Thank you’
Showing support for Mitchell’s announcement and Trump’s candidacy, ThePersistence commented, “Bill, I just wanted to thank you. Thank you for coming out & endorsing President Trump. We have to win this November — there is no other option. Thank you for helping to save our country.“
“We can do this.”
Presidential Favorability
In a recent Gallup poll, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are neck and neck in favorability among American adults, though both have seen a decline since their 2020 electoral face-off.
Biden’s Declining Favorability
Biden’s favorability has fallen to 41% from 49% in October 2020, reflecting a significant drop from his early presidency ratings above 50%.
A Trump Comeback?
Trump’s favorability stands at 42%, slightly down from his 45% in October 2020, but showing recovery from lower ratings in 2021 and 2022 amid post-election controversies, including the Jan. 6 riots.
Legal Woes and Voter Impact
Recent polls indicate that former President Donald Trump’s multiple criminal charges could negatively impact his appeal to swing voters in the upcoming general election, especially if he is convicted.
Four Legal Battles
Trump is embroiled in four legal battles, including two federal and state cases in Georgia and New York. A Gallup poll highlighted that only 29% of Americans would support a candidate charged with a felony, and just 23% would back a convicted felon.
Awaiting the Court’s Decision
The Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll showed that 53% of voters in battleground states, including 23% of Republicans, would not vote for Trump if he were found guilty. Additionally, a Washington Post/Monmouth University poll in South Carolina revealed that 36% of GOP primary voters would prefer another Republican nominee if Trump were convicted, with only 62% willing to support him post-conviction.
Delay
Trump’s federal election trial, initially set for March, has been delayed as he seeks its dismissal. He is awaiting a ruling from an appeals court that may eventually escalate to the Supreme Court.
