California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, has come forward to support Taylor Swift against recent criticisms by some Republicans.
Addressing Conspiracy Theories
In a discussion on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show,” Newsom addressed the conspiracy theories targeting Swift, particularly those spread by supporters of Former President Donald Trump.
Orchestrated Media Coverage
Conspiracies center around Swift’s connection with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. Figures like former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who endorsed Trump, amplify claims that the media coverage of the star is orchestrated to pave the way for an eventual endorsement of President Joe Biden.
Manipulating NFL Game
Various versions of the theory exist, with some speculating that the NFL will manipulate the Super Bowl to ensure Kelce’s team emerges victorious—thus offering Swift the opportunity to publicly endorse Biden.
Propped-up Couple
Ramaswamy, in a late January post on X, stated, “I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.
“Sad and Pathetic”
When asked by Jonathan Capehart about his thoughts on these theories, Newsom condemned them as “sad and pathetic,” highlighting the Republican party’s discomfort with Swift’s efforts to encourage voting.
“What is Her Sin”
“What is her sin? She wants more people to vote. She wants to help people register to vote and remind them of the importance of expressing their democratic rights and responsibilities…They don’t want people to vote. They want to make it harder because they can’t win if you vote,” Newsom remarked.
The Real “Issue”
Newsom humorously suggested that the actual concern is Kelce’s team competing against his favored San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, playfully noting, “You’re on the wrong team. I mean, that’s the deeper problem.”
Swift’s First Endorsement
In 2018, Swift entered the political arena by endorsing Phil Bredesen, the Democratic opponent of Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee.
No Endorsement Yet
In 2020, Swift backed Biden, however, she has not yet endorsed anyone for the 2024 election.
Biden Eyeing Swift’s Endorsement
Meanwhile, Biden’s team is reportedly keen on securing her endorsement, with suggestions of the president attending Swift’s Eras Tour being considered.
Eventual Support
According to Rolling Stone, Trump loyalists working on or close to the former president’s campaign, alongside longtime Trump allies in right-wing media and advisers to the ex-president, have long taken it as a given that Swift will eventually endorse Biden.
“Holly War” Against Singer
Due to this expected endorsement, the outlet noted that the MAGA world is preparing a “holy war” against the pop star.
Trump “More Popular”
In recent weeks, the former president has told people in his orbit that no amount of A-list celebrity endorsements will save Biden. Trump has also privately claimed that he is “more popular” than Swift and that he has more committed fans than she does.
Swift Pentagon’s Asset
Last month, Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested that Swift was a “front for a covert political agenda.” On his primetime show, he mentioned that “around four years ago, the Pentagon’s psychological operations unit considered turning Taylor Swift into an asset.”
Shaking Off Conspiracy Theory
Responding to this claim, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh stated, “As for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off.”
Bizarre Theories
Swift has encountered a barrage of bizarre conspiracy theories before, ranging from allegations of involvement with the Illuminati to being purportedly a clone of a Satanic cult leader.
Speculation’s Intensified
However, speculation has intensified recently, particularly in the wake of the “Lover” singer’s newfound romance with Kelce.
Hinder Kelce’s Performance
Both sports enthusiasts and Republicans have speculated that Swift entered into a relationship with Kelce in an attempt to assist rival teams in reaching the Super Bowl and that her attendance at games was a deliberate tactic to hinder Kelce’s performance in football.
False Assertions
However, these assertions were proved false when the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in the AFC championship in January, and the debunking was further confirmed when the team won the Super Bowl on Sunday.
