Facing criticism isn’t new for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), especially when it comes to commenting on others’ clothing choices for political reasons. This time, she’s advising conservative Christian women on how to dress to prevent men from having impure thoughts.
‘Unpopular opinion’
According to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, adhering to conservative Christian values means not expressing oneself sexually. “This might be an unpopular opinion and could hurt some feelings,” Greene wrote.
Respect Through Dress?
She added, “There are many conservative Christian women, who are influencers or leaders, that are selling themselves short and not being good role models by conforming to the world’s sexualization of women.”
Avoiding Temptation
“If you are conservative and a Christian you know you don’t have to express yourself in sexual ways and you know you are attractive by dressing nice and feminine, and you can be beautiful and modest at the same time,” she stated.
Men ‘Respect’ Modest Women
Greene further emphasized, “Men will respect you more and think of you much more highly than just a sexual object for gratification. It’s also good to not tempt your Christian brothers and cause them to stumble.”
Rejecting ‘Fallen World’ Standards
Taylor Greene urges conservative Christian women to set an example for younger generations through their actions that reflect their faith, rather than conforming to the ways of a ‘fallen world.’
‘Be the Light’
“As conservative Christian women let us always be an example to girls and young women by displaying actions that our faith believes and not conform to the patterns of this fallen world. Be the light, don’t fall into the darkness,” she advised.
Traditional Gender Expressions
This stance, particularly her emphasis on ‘feminine’ dressing, seems to stem from her opposition to gender expressions that diverge from sex assigned at birth, including drag and trans identities.
Gender-Based Dress Code
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene faced substantial backlash on the former Twitter platform, X. Critics accused her of promoting the belief that women are accountable for men’s sexual misconduct.
Infidelity Rumors
Her personal life also came under fire, with longstanding tabloid accusations of infidelity involving Justin Tway and Craig Ivey. Greene has labeled these claims as ‘ridiculous tabloid garbage spread by an avowed Communist.’
Her ex-husband, Perry Greene, hasn’t confirmed these rumors.
Unwavering Trump Support
Critics also noted her unwavering support for Donald Trump, even after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, alongside accusations of sexual misconduct from at least 25 other women.
Mar-a-Lago Crowd
User GettingBy2024 questioned Rep. Greene’s personal conduct, directly asking, “Didn’t you cheat on your husband? I guess that’s typical for the Mar-a-Lago crowd.”
Morality Questioned
A user going by ‘caring’ pointed out the perceived hypocrisy in her role as a moral guide: “Excuse me, the woman who cheated on her husband multiple times with multiple men is giving role model advice to young women under the guise of Christian living?”
Call for Greene’s Removal
Another user Wren (@wrens_dens) criticized Greene’s effectiveness as a Congressional Representative amidst a nationwide cellular outage, writing, “Marjorie, we are experiencing a mass cellular outage across the United States. You have continually demonstrated that you are not a serious Congressional Representative.”
“You need to be voted out or removed. Especially because you have worked with Russian officials.”
Greene Gains Support
Despite the intense criticism, not everyone shared this critical view. Paul A. Szypula, supported Greene’s stance on respect and self-worth, stating, “Marge is right that men will respect women more if they respect themselves. The same goes with women respecting men. Ultimately it’s the brain that’s the most attractive element of any human. At least in the long run.”
Critique of Zelensky’s Attire
Previously, Greene took issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attire during his meeting with Biden, stating, “Zelenskyy can’t even wear a tie as he greets the President of the United States. He gladly takes our money in sweatshirts and t-shirts, but Biden is dressed up. So insulting. America Last!!!”
