Comer Continues to Struggle Finding Conclusive Evidence for Joe Biden’s Impeachment

Recently released transcripts show that Representative James Comer, the chair of the Republican Oversight Committee, still hasn’t managed to find conclusive evidence that would back an impeachment of President Biden. His recent attempts involve Hunter Biden’s art sales.

Potential Problem

Before interviewing Kevin Morris, a Hollywood lawyer, Comer stated that “Morris’s massive financial support to Hunter Biden raises ethical and campaign finance concerns for President Joe Biden.”

Morris, a friend of Hunter Biden, loaned Biden roughly $5 million. He testified to the House committee that he had not received any political favors for giving Biden the money.

Instead, Morris described the loan as a gift to a “brother” who had recently become sober. Morris first met Hunter at a Joe Biden fundraiser in 2019, and the two have been friends since then.

As Morris testified, the loan was not freely given. It was carefully put together by lawyers and will have to be repaid with interest.

The Art Question

Another person who recently testified before the House committee was George Bergès, an art dealer who sold Hunter Biden’s artwork. Republicans had alleged that Biden wanted to know who was buying his work, which could be evidence of impropriety.

However, in 2021, then–Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters that an agreement had been made to ensure that Hunter Biden “will not know, we will not know, who purchases his art.” She described the agreement as a sort of “firewall” that would allow Hunter Biden to sell his art “within reasonable safeguards.”

No Political Involvement

According to transcripts of Bergès’s interview with the House committee, the dealer denied ever discussing Hunter Biden’s business ventures with President Biden. He also asserted that he had never asked the President to act on his behalf, had never received political favors from the President, and had never implied to potential buyers that they might receive “some favor from the White House if they purchased Hunter’s art.”

A Farce

Ian Sams posted pictures of the interview transcripts on X, announcing them as the “latest in House GOP ‘failure theater.’” The transcripts “of Republicans’ own witnesses,” he wrote, “refute their baseless impeachment allegations.”

“Everyone already knew there is nothing supporting Republicans’ impeachment inquiry except Republicans and Fox viewers,” former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks posted on social media after the transcripts of Comer’s interviews were published.

“Time to investigate the comer crime family,” one X user commented in response to Sams’s post. “This is why Hunter refused a secret testimony,” another user wrote.

Accusations as Confessions

“It’s all a projection,” one user claimed. “GOP cant imagine having a father & son relationship that is not transactional, manipulative, and built on exploitation. So it is impossible for them to accept that daily phone calls between father and son aren’t ‘evidence’ of a crime!”

No Surprise

“Republicans lied about closed door testimony?!” One user wrote. “I’m shocked!” “This is why Hunter’s testimony should be public,” another commented. “Republicans will lie about it otherwise.”
