Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene used the third anniversary of January 6 to share what she described as “The aftermath of January 6” as part of her effort to denounce BLM protesters and rioters. But the images and videos were from an entirely different event.
BLM Under Scrutiny

On the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) focused her attention on condemning the civil disturbances during the Black Lives Matter protests.
Jan 6 Aftermath?

Greene shared a series of posts on X criticizing BLM activists and rioters while presenting videos she claimed were from January 6. “The aftermath of January 6, 2021,” she captioned one post.
What’s the Real Story?

Though she suggests in her post that it’s the aftermath of January 6th, the videos and images showcasing looting and buildings on fire were, in fact, from the unrest that ensued after George Floyd’s murder in 2020.
A Turning Point

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis following suspicions about a counterfeit $20 bill. Floyd’s death sparked a nationwide movement and civil unrest, bringing the issue of police violence against Black people into sharp focus.
“Summer of Love” and BLM Riots

In a different post accompanied by images of what appeared to be buildings on fire and rioting, Greene captioned it with a sarcastic remark, “Wait.. that was also from the ‘Summer of Love’ BLM riots when they decided to burn down our nation’s capital.”
Controversial Stance

Greene has consistently defended those charged in the January 6 riots, often contrasting their treatment with what she perceives as leniency towards Black Lives Matter protesters.
Protest Arrests

Notably, an Associated Press report from June 3, 2020, indicated that around 9,300 people were arrested during the protests following George Floyd’s death. In stark contrast, over 1,265 individuals have faced charges related to the January 6 Capitol riot, with about 718 pleading guilty to various federal offenses.
Greene on Biden

Greene directly attacked President Joe Biden as well, who, in his first campaign speech in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, condemned the Capitol riot and mentioned the arrests. She also highlighted CNN’s infamous “fiery but mostly peaceful” caption.
Alleged Media Bias

She further argued, “The media loves to propagandize the events of J6 to villainize peaceful Trump supporters. The same media who declared the BLM riots ‘Fiery but Mostly Peaceful’ as Kenosha, WI burned during just one night of ‘protests.’”
Rotting in Jail?

“Patriotic pretrial J6 defendants are rotting away in jail, many being held in solitary confinement, and Joe Biden brags about it!” Green wrote. “Meanwhile, most BLM rioters who caused billions of $’s in damages and set our country on fire haven’t spent a single day in jail.”
Trump Avoiding the Topic?

While Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene used the anniversary of January 6 to criticize BLM protesters and rioters, Donald Trump notably avoided mentioning the Capitol attack in a campaign speech on the same day.
This stance reflects a broader pattern among Republican voters who downplay Trump’s involvement in that day’s outcomes.
Potential Electoral Rematch

Trump’s comments followed Biden’s speech in Pennsylvania, where Biden pointed out Trump’s call to “fight like hell” just before the Capitol attack. Trump briefly referred to January 6, hinting at a potential electoral rematch later this year.
Polarizing Topic in America

A recent Washington Post-University of Maryland Poll reveals that January 6 continues to be a polarizing topic among Americans, with a notable segment holding baseless beliefs about the FBI’s involvement in the riot.
The poll found that 34% of Republicans and 44% of Trump voters suspect FBI participation, while 30% of independents and 13% of Democrats share this view.
