California Governor Gavin Newsom talked on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” with Jonathan Capehart and revealed an unexpected threat to MAGA Republicans while stating that it was time “to go on the offense.”
“Dominating the narrative”
Newsom blasted likely GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. First, he stated that on propaganda networks, “facts don’t matter. Illusion rules.” He then asked, “What’s Trump’s success in this primary? It’s dominating the narrative.” Newsom mentioned Trump’s campaigning during the trials, adding that Democrats should “flood the zone” because “we have the facts, they don’t.”
Time to get back on the offense
Newsom declared Democrats should go back to the offense instead of feeling “defensive and timid.” That’s when the host introduced Taylor Swift and added how Republicans have “lost their minds” over the musician. Newsom tried to explain the MAGA “mania” regarding Swift and her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.
The Governor talks about Swift
Newsom pointed out, “What is her sin? She wants more people to vote.” He continued, “She wants to help people register to vote and remind them of the importance of expressing their democratic rights and responsibilities.”
In “awe”
The host, Jonathan Capehart, asked Newsom if he had any advice for the musician, considering there are so many conspiracy theories about her and her boyfriend. The California Governor praised the musician, “I’m not telling Taylor Swift anything. I’m in awe of her resiliency.”
Newsom is not worried
The liberal Governor added, “I’m not worried about her capacity to weather these rather weak storm systems coming in from Jesse Watters and a few others.” However, he wanted to discuss the Republicans’ reaction to the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter.
GOP does not want people to vote, claims Newsom
Newsom stated, “They don’t want people to vote; they want to make it harder because they can’t win if you vote.” Regarding the attacks on the musician, while she never endorsed the 2024 candidate, the Governor said, “That says everything you need to know about the Republican Party.”
“Sad and pathetic”
“How sad and pathetic the Republican Party has become that Taylor Swift literally is a threat to them for one reason: She wants folks to turn out and vote,” the California Governor continued.
The Governor talks about the real problem
Newsom joked that the real problem was that Kelce, a Kansas City Chiefs star, would face his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers, at the Super Bowl. Newsom added, “You’re on the wrong team. I mean, that’s the deeper problem.”
Newsom’s prediction
In September, the California Governor said Swift’s influence on the 2024 election will be “profoundly powerful.” He told TMZ, “Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” adding, “What she was able to accomplish in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and they should have a voice in the next election, I think it’s profoundly powerful.”
The comments came after Swift called fans to register to vote
On National Voter Registration Day, Swift called her followers to register, writing, “I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year!”
Far-right conspiracies
In recent weeks, Swift, who made history by winning her fourth Grammy in the category “Best Album of the Year,” became one of the most talked about stars in bizarre theories. Fox’s Jesse Watters told viewers that “around four years ago, the Pentagon’s psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset.”
More wild theories
Laura Loomer, a Trump activist, wrote on X, “The Democrats’ Taylor Swift election interference psyop is happening in the open.” She continued, “It’s not a coincidence that current and former Biden admin officials are propping up Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. They are going to use Taylor Swift as the poster child for their pro-abortion GOTV Campaign.”
NFL is also “rigged”
Apart from claims of “rigged elections,” some went further and wrote about “rigged NFL.” “The NFL is totally RIGGED for the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor Swift, Mr. Pfizer (Travis Kelce),” wrote Mike Crispi, a Salem Media host, adding, “All to spread DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA. Calling it now: KC wins, goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and ‘endorses’ Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield.”

Benny Johnson, a right-wing media personality, simply wrote, “Taylor Swift is an op. It’s all fake. You’re being played.” Newsmax’s Greg Kelly talked about Swift’s fans and declared, “If you look it up in the Bible, it’s a sin! So, I don’t like that. And I’m also over this new boyfriend.”

Kelly added, “She is going to use all of this popularity, potentially, against MAGA and for Democrats. She’s got a record of this stuff, a track record.”
