Rudy Giuliani, once mayor of New York City and more recently an attorney for former President Donald Trump, started the new year by asking his followers to subscribe to his podcast. The plea came just days after he filed for bankruptcy.
Hands Out
“Do yourself and me a big favor,” Giuliani wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “and join our premier program America’s Mayor Confidential so we become a close knit team for 2024.” Giuliani asked followers to “subscribe for $10 per month so we can be an army by mid-next year.”
Exclusive Offer
That army, the post continued, was “only for those who accept the responsibility to re-establish our constitutional rights and pass on to future generations an even greater America than we were given.”
False Start
Unfortunately for Giuliani, the X account he asked fans to navigate to in order to subscribe is suspended.
Money Troubles
On December 21, Giuliani filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New York. The embattled former mayor listed more than $150 million in existing or potential debts.
Legal Troubles
Practically all of the debt looming over Giuliani stems from the many lawsuits he faces. On December 19, a judge ruled that Giuliani must pay $148 million as restitution for defaming two Georgia election workers.
False Claims
The judge found that Giuliani had defamed the mother and daughter by lying that the pair had added false ballots for President Joe Biden during the 2020 election. Giuliani was a key proponent of the baseless claims that Biden had stolen the election from Trump.
Bad Behavior
In May, a former employee of Giuliani launched a lawsuit of her own against the attorney and his law firm. Noelle Dunphy is seeking $10 million for a variety of offenses, ranging from “sexual assault,” “wage theft,” and “alcohol-drenched rants that included sexist, racist, and antisemitic remarks.”
Newest Suit
In September, Hunter Biden, the controversial son of President Joe Biden, launched a suit of his own against Giuliani and a longtime friend of the former mayor. Biden alleges in the suit that Giuliani and his friend spent years “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from” Biden’s laptop and other electronic devices.
The Laptop
Just 20 days before the 2020 election, a trove of Hunter Biden’s personal data was publicly leaked. The 200+ gigabytes of materials included sex tapes, videos of Biden smoking crack, analyses from Biden’s psychiatrist, Biden’s porn searches, and much, much more.
Continuing Investigation
Though some of the more serious allegations against Biden that are based on this data, such as using his family ties for self-enrichment, remain unproven, the president’s son has been indicted on other charges. In December, for example, he was indicted on nine tax charges.
Giuliani Denies
Giuliani’s spokesperson denied the charges filed by Hunter Biden. He argued that Biden’s accusation that Giuliani had “manipulated” the “laptop hard drive” was unsurprising “considering the sordid material and potential evidence of crimes on that thing.”
Giuliani in Georgia
In Georgia, Giuliani has been indicted with Trump and 17 other co-defendants for allegedly attempting to overturn the state’s 2020 election results. Like Trump, Giuliani pled not guilty and waived his right to appear at the September arraignment hearing.
Giuliani’s Money Makers
As well as America’s Mayor Confidential, Giuliani heads the Common Sense podcast, which he has also asked fans to subscribe to. Giuliani is also affiliated with America’s Mayor, a livestream.
